Many people are now turning to natural products due to their safety and enrichment to their health. More and more people are gaining knowledge on dangers posed by industrial products. Some of the products that are known to have negative effects on human skin are the commercial soaps. People using some commercial soap complain of irritation, itchiness and dryness on their skins after using them. As a result, consumers are now turning to natural soaps and other natural beauty skin products which offer a healthy alternative to industrial soaps that contain harmful chemicals as ingredients. One of the common natural soap that has been preferred as an alternative to in-organic soaps is Lavender soap.
Lavender soap is largely made of lavender oil. However, modern makers of lavender soap use a mixture of various natural ingredients to create valuable products that are not only fit for human consumption, but also safe for environment. Lavender soaps are made from oils extracted from lavender herbaceous plant. Lavender oil has for a long time been used by aroma therapists as a relaxant for its calming properties. It has also been used for treating skin burns, skin irritations as well as bug bites. Natural soap makers find lavender the best choice of ingredient due to its sweet scent and healing ability to the skin.
Currently, there are many soap makers which use lavender as the primary ingredient. Therefore, you can easily find lavender soap from most shops. However, industrial lavender soaps may not be 100% natural as there may be some chemical additives for preservation, colors or fragrances. The only way to be sure of pure lavender soap is by making it on your own. Surprisingly, making a lavender soap is not difficult. All you need is obtain relevant ingredients and materials that are necessary in the process. Most of the ingredients can be obtained from the shops, while others could already be present in your kitchen.
Basically, there are 3 ways of making a lavender soap. The first method is Melt and Pour process. This method requires a large block of untreated soap which can be found from some selected cleaning agents products or craft stores. The soap base is melted and optional ingredients are added as colors, scents and treatments. The second method is the hot process. This is the most involving method and requires a great deal of experience and attention. The soap is made from scratch and involves heating the contents together in a mixture and later allowing it to cool for some days. The most commonly used method is the cold process. Cold process does not require much heating and it’s not as complex as the hot process.
Depending on the kind of lavender soap you want to make, some of the natural ingredients you may require include lavender essential oil, lye, coconut oil, palm oil, distilled water, castor oil, organic cow’s or goat’s milk, gloves and molds. You can as well use aloe which is a wonderful skin treatment herb, basil for refreshing the skin, oatmeal for skin exfoliation and rosemary for fragrance.
The advantage of making your own lavender soap is that you are in control of the final product. You can try out various natural ingredients and choose what to include and not to.
